HISTORY AND DOCUMENTS ABOUT THE HOLY LAND
STORIA E DOCUMENTI SULLA TERRA SANTA

A collection of six centuries of Firmans dating from 1363 to 1902, kept in the archives of the Custody of the Holy Land. From the documents of the Ottoman administration surface fragments of the life lived amid hardship, difficulties and also, at times, the vexations the franciscans endured for four centuries to insure for the Catholic Church the right to visit and celebrate the Sacred Mysteries in the Holy Places. The Firmans moreover give witness to the peculiar style of Ottoman government and furnish a source for an understanding of Sultans and minor officials in the administration of the Ottoman empire.
