The Sinai Desert and Egypt

156. The (city) of Chaireus - (Keriun)

He chaireu (= Of Chaireos). This village, often mentioned by Byzantine and Muslim authors, is identical with ruins near al-Karyun (perhaps Kom al-Giza?). Christians and Christian churches are not attested in literary sources earlier than the Middle Ages. The simple representation is almost completely lost.
