Mount Ephraim and Benjamin

48. Luza, also Bethel - (Beitin)

The village of Luza is not located between Jerusalem and Neapolis but, erroneously, in the mountainous area near Rimmon. The white inscription and a vignette of "a door between two towers" type relates it.

Bethel (Gen 12:8). And today it is a village at the 12th milestone from Jerusalem on the way to Neapolis, on the right side. At first it was called [Ulammaus and] Luza, that is, almond, and fell into the lot of Benjamin, near Bethaven and Ai. Joshua captured it and slew its king. (Eusebius, Onomasticon 40:20-24; Jerome 41:17-21)
