Ether (Jos 19:7), in the lot of Simeon. And now it is a very large village in the inner Daroma, near Malatha.

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Judah according to their families. The towns belonging to the tribe of the people of Judah in the extreme South, toward the boundary of Edom, were Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur... and in the hill country, Shamir, Jattir, Socoh.

Josh. 19:1.7-8 The tribe of Simeon
The second lot came out for Simeon, for the tribe of Simeon, according to its families; its inheritance lay within the inheritance of the tribe of Judah... Ain, Rimmon, Ether, and Ashan - four towns with their villages; together with all the villages all around these towns as far as Baalath-beer, Ramah of the Negeb. Iether, a priestly town in the tribe of Judah. Now there is a large estate by name Iethira twenty miles from Eleutheropolis. Its population is all made of Christians. It is situated in the inner Darom (South), near Malathan (Malhatha). We have already spoken above of it.
