MASS OF THANKSGIVING FOR THE ELECTION OF POPE BENEDICT XVI
Source: Custody of the Holy Land
On Friday 22 April, at 10.30 a.m. the Christian community of Jerusalem gathered in the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre for the celebration of a Mass of thanksgiving for the election of Pope Benedict XVI. The Mass was celebrated by the Assembly of the Ordinaries of the Holy Land, together with the Latin Patriarch and the Custos of the Holy Land. Various delegations from the Greek Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, Syrian Orthodox, Coptic and Ethiopic Churches assisted in the liturgy, as well as the Consuls General of the Christian nations. The Apostolic Nuncio, Mgr. Pietro Sambi delivered the homily [LINK], during which he recalled the priorities of the new Pope.
The Liturgical Office of the Custody took care to publish a booklet with the readings and songs of the Mass in different languages, as it had already done on the occasion of the Mass in memory of the deceased Pope John Paul II. In this way the faithful could participate in a more active way.
In His divine plan full of wisdom, God has founded his Church on the rock of Peter, and He will guide and sustain Pope Benedict in his mission of being the foundation of unity in the faith and communion in charity.
