Short history:

The union of the Romanian Church from Transylvania with the Church of Rome took place in 1700. The Eparchy of Făgăraș was founded on May 18, 1721, by the Rationi Congruit. On November 26, 1853, Pope Pius IX, restored the Metropolis of Alba-Iulia and Făgăraș, by the Ecclesiam Christi. Two new Eparchies were founded (Gherla and Lugoj). The Eparchy of Făgăraș was raised to Archeparchy, becoming the Archeparchy of Alba-Iulia and Făgăraș.
